Bluetooth/Missing Sync/Mac
      #14934 - 08/30/04 09:53 PM

For those of us who do give a damn about the Apple Mac . . .

I noticed that PalmOne's finally coming out with an SD Wi-Fi card for the Tungsten T3. I was browsing for information about it when I came across posts suggesting that Bluetooth might be more suitable for my immediate application. Basically, I want a fairly secure way to get my PDA to talk to my home desktop and share its DSL internet connection and possible my USB printer. The environment would be my modestly-sized apartment. From my home office, which is where I keep my desktop and DSL modem, it's no more than 10-15 metres in any direction before you get to the next unit or outside.

My question: what do I need? Do I just need to get a Bluetooth dongle for my Mac G3/300 Yosemite MacOS 10.3 desktop (since the T3 already has Bluetooth)? Or do I need to use a Bluetooth Access Point, such as the one sold by Belkin? I already have Mark/space's Missing Sync, which says it supports internet sharing over Bluetooth for the PDA.

What if I wanted to bring a laptop into the mix? Would I be able to use Missing Sync to share the internet connection/printers with a laptop?

If I were to get the Bluetooth Access Point, I can see I'd still have to buy a Bluetooth dongle (for my desktop), since the Belkin model, at least, doesn't allow you to wire-connect any computers to the Access Point. Am I right to conclude that if I were using an Access Point, I wouldn't be able to use Missing Sync?

Basically, I'm asking, what do I minimally need to get started?
