PDA options for field researchers
      #15188 - 09/07/04 09:09 PM

Hi- We're looking to use PDAs to collect field data from several projects. Our data bases currently use Microsoft Access. We would like to continue to use the current configurations in order to keep our data continuity. I've seen Excel for PDA's, but no mention of Access. Is there Access for PDA and if not how easy is it transfer from Excel to Access?

Most of our research occurs on small open boats in all weather. A ruggedized PDA seems like an obvious match, but the price tag might be more than we can swallow. Any suggestions on bombproof cases? Also, since our uses are pretty basic and specialized, we do not need the "latest and greatest." If anyone out there is in the upgrade process we are always happy to receive donations!

Thanks

Doug M.

There are several database products available for Palm and Pocket PC that can sync with Access.

For rugged cases, look at www.otterbox.com- extremely rugged and watertight.

Thanks LisaG! Any recommendations for specific programs which sync with Access?

I don't really use databases much anymore, so I'd suggest checking out the listings to see what looks like a good match for your needs.

Check out Pendragon Forms and HandDbase for access sync.
