battery replacement on PDA's
      #15566 - 09/18/04 03:17 PM

I'm thinking of getting a Zire 31 instead of a 21 for the better screen features, but the review of the 31 says the battery is not user replaceable. Does this mean what it seems to mean? That is, that once the battery runs out, you need to get a new PDA? If so, what's typical battery life? If not, what does it mean?

thanks for any help...
Susan

hi,

u r right. its not like a cell phone battery that can be changed. its an internal one. the average life of palm batteries is about 2 years. after that the palm is as good as dead. my advice to you will be to not buy the zire 31...the screen looks baddd...and its not a reliable unit. buy a zire 72 instead (but you'll have to live with the paint peeling problem)

regards,
walnut

It means, if your battery runs out, you can either send it back to palmOne to get a replacement battery, which isn't cheap; or you can use places mentioned in this thread to get a cheapter solution.

Thanks Walnut and Thong for your responses. Now I have another question...

Not all of the tech specs say "not user replaceable". Are the batteries on all palm's not user replaceable or only on the ones that specifically say so?

All palmOne devices have non-user replaceable batteries.

hi susan,
all palm batts are non-replaceable except upto the IIIxe models which had replaceable AAA batts. however, the palms coming out now all have internal non-replaceable batts.

walnut
