      #15736 - 09/23/04 04:21 AM

I dont need frills like Mp3,camera etc. Help me me choose a pda/ppc for loading and working on word, and then sending back to my comp. Good quantity of memory. Plus a great calender/date book.
Also is it possible to add progs like Scriptwriter to handhelds?
Thanx people.

Pretty much every current PDA can work with Word documents. If the included internal storage isn't enough, you can buy memory cards. All have calendars with a decent amount of features, and if you want more, there are plenty of Palm and Pocket PC calendar apps available for try-out and purchase.

I've never heard of Scriptwriter, sorry.

hello - as far as I know - the cheapest PDA with Bluetooth is the Tungsten T which can be got for $100 - $150 refurb. $250 or so should get you a Dell or HP pocket pc with bluetooth - as for word - pocket pc's do support it, also palm with 3rd party software - the other features you mention should be supported by most PDA'S - as for memory - most pda's feature expansion slots which support memory cards - usually SD - this type of memory is quite inexpensive - eg a 256MB card could be picked up for $25. sorry I have not heard of Scriptwriter - is it a programming language? could you please give more details on this?

I disappeared for a few days.Belated thanx for taking the trouble to reply. Being a writer I presume that the world knows all about related stuff! I refer to any scriptwriting prog, in particular that would be MovieMagic screenwriter 2000. That has to be registered online before one can start using it on the PC. I am an idiot therefore dont know whether progs for PCs can be downloaded on to handhelds. Many thanx

Software applications/programs for the PC cannot run automatically on Pocket PCs/Palm. They will need to be ported to these platforms.

The application code has to be re-edited/compiled for the Windows Mobile or Palm OS platform, as opposed to Windows XP/98/2000/NT. This means the programmers who have the source code or license the source code for that program have to write/compile a new program for the handheld devices for you to run it on your Pocket PC or Palm. Generally you won't find Windows desktop programs on PDAs though since very few desktop software makers both porting to the PDA.
