Laptop replacement
      #16181 - 10/08/04 09:09 AM

I work on a university campus that has wireless throughout. I can access a department shared drive from anywhere on campus (through a VPN), which allows me access to all my documents and PowerPoint presentations that I use for lectures but it?s a drag carrying my laptop with me everywhere. Is there a PDA that would allow me to a) access the shared drive (and my MS Office documents), b) allow me to print on our Cannon office printer, c) display PowerPoint for presentations, and d) connect to an LCD projector (presumably a wired connection)? I can go for top of the line but wouldn?t mind saving a few bucks either.

Note: This is not a PC replacement (I have a desktop PC in my office), just an easier way to move around campus.

If you get a Pocket PC, you can either get one that comes with VPN software (Dell Axim X30 and some high end iPAQs) or buy 3rd party VPN software. You will probably need to get a Pocket PC with CF card slot because most of the VGA presentation cards for the Pocket PC are in CF format: http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/index.htm#presentation

Current Pocket PCs with CF card slot:
