Hi, I'm thinking of buying a handheld. I really want it for e-mail, instant messaging, and checking the occaisonal website. I'm not looking to spend TOO much money, but i'd say that somewhere in the $250-300 is my sweet spot. If a little more gets me a much better machine, then so be it.
Also, what kind of accessories do I need? memory cards? wireless cards? cases? i'm a real newb here.
Thanks!
EDIT: Also - I think I'd like a windows machine - no Palm OS for me.
The Dell Axim X30 and newly released iPAQ 1715 are in your price range, so are some slightly older models like the iPAQ 1940. Reviews can be found here:
There are a few ways to get online, you will find what/if any wireless options on these units in our reviews. The easiest way will probably be the devices with built in WiFi or Bluetooth (if you have access to wifi access points/hotspots, or have BT phone that you can use as modem to get online.)
As for memory cards, it depends. Check out our specs at the end of each review to see how much stuff you can put on the internal memory. If you want to have a good number of videos, MP3, games, etc., you will likely need memory cards. http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/storage.htm
Cases are always a good idea. It won't prevent damages if you drop your PDA to a cement floor, but it will protect your PDA from scratches, bumps and bruises while in a bag or pockets. http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/cases.htm
