PDA - Sat Nav

I'm lookng for a suitable PDA, mainly for Sat Nav but don't want to pay a fortune.
I've come across this from Dell for ?152,
I'm not too bothered about bluetooth, but will the 312MHz processor and 32MB SDRAM be up to the job?

The speed on the 312MHz should be fine for using with GPS. The Memory isn't usually big enough for storing any mid-large map files. You will definitely need to get an SD card depending on the size of the maps. Bluetooth could be useful for the BT GPS such as this one:

I phoned Dell today and the bloke told me that the 312MHz processor and 32MB SDRAM would not be sufficient for Sat Nav.

I'm confused.

Was he just trying to sell me something dearer?

The optimized navigation software for the PDAs will work with the Dell processor. In fact, you shouldn't see any delay in searching satellite signals or navigating routs. The only thing that the Dell might not be enough is the memory, then again, most PDAs won't have enough memory for maps if you have many regions on it. For exmaple, Northern California map could go up to 100-200MB. European maps are usually smaller. So what you will need in addition to the Dell is memory card(s) depending on the size of your maps.
