Using FileZ, we can a list of Unsaved Preferences. I wonder in which file are they located. Apparently they are not backed up by Palm Desktop. But they must exist in some file format, else my SD backup software won't be able to pick it up. Some applications save current running states in Unsaved Preferences only. It will be nice if I could figure out the file in question and use FileZ to mark it for backup. Thanks.

They are stored in a file called UnsavedPreferences. By convention, Hotsync doesn't back that file up. As you indicate, setting the Backup bit with Filez will cause it to be backed up during Hotsync.
Standard Palm programming practice recommends against developers from storing "permanent" settings in Unsaved Preferences, but unfortunately some developers don't follow this convention.

Including the developers at LDW, who developed the popular Fish Tycoon. I lost all my precious fish last time around. :-)
From now on I am backing up the UnsavedPreferces. Hopefully it won't have any negative effects.

Sorry about your fish. There's probably a disappointed cat somewhere...
I've backed up UnsavedPreferences with BackupBuddy for years and haven't had any problems with it on restores.

You lost your Magic Fish too? If you don't want to breed them all over again, you can get a couple of them going and trade them with other players in the new version.
