Adding Zire 72 to desktop with Tungsten T3 software
      #18177 - 12/15/04 03:02 PM

Hi,
I already had Palm Desktop software on my iMac G-5 (Panther OS), and my wife got a Zire 72. She tried to use the supplied disk to install her software, but the computer denied access. Will she be able to do this? How?

She synced using the already installed software and a different users name. Kinoma Player did not appear on the Zire 72. She is concerned that with the problems that I had figuring out Kinoma producer and player, I may have messed it up so that it is not downloading to her Zire 72. We are trying to learn as fast as we can -- at this point we are assuming that the Zire 72 uses Kinoma player for movies. Thanks so much, Mike

I'm not a Mac person, but does the Mac have separate logins for different users like Win2K/XP? OSX is based on Unix, and Unix had that security capability as well. If so, only an administrator can access another users files. The way around it in Windows is to install the common software under "All Users". I have no idea how to do that on a Mac.

Mike,

Do you have the iSync 1.2 palm conduit for MAc OS installed in your machine?
Because the iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit installer changes the ownership and permission settings of some Palm folders to Read Only. The Palm Desktop Installer requires these folders have Read & Write access.
A user with Administrator privileges (usually the primary user under Mac OS X) must change these privileges prior to running the Palm Desktop installer.

Perform one of the following procedures to change the affected folder privileges:

Mac OS X 10.2.x and 10.3.x

1. Download and install the latest version of Palm Desktop for Macintosh from the palmOne support website, here: http://www.palmone.com/us/support/macintosh/mac_desktop.html

Alternatively, if you need to reinstall your software from the original CD you must perform the following procedure.

* In the Finder, select the "/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync" folder. Note that this is the Library folder at the ?root' level of your hard drive, not the Library folder in your user Home folder.
* Select "Get Info" from the File menu.
*
* Select the lock icon next to the "Owner" name to unlock it.
* Select the Owner menu and select your username (or a user with Admin privileges). You may be asked to enter your password at this time.
* Change the Owner's Access to "Read & Write"
* Select the "Group" name and change it to "Admin"
* Change the Group's Access to "Read & Write"
* Repeat steps 2 through 8 for the following two folders:

"/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits"
"/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Disabled Conduits"

I hope this can solve ur issue.
