Starting from the ground up.

I was hoping you might be able to provide some advice for the PDA an phone system that might best fit my needs. All I have now is a cell phone, but I do not like it a lot and my contract expires soon.
I will be moving to San Diego soon to start a new job in a medical practice there. I will have to work between several different sites and may need to access contacts, information and e-mail from each of them. So a wireless connection to those sites would be nice. I need to store and present Microsoft documents and Power Point presentations, and I would like enough memory to store a couple reference textbooks.
I have tried to research as best I could but of course, nothing seems to perfectly fit my needs. I have no strong preference for Palm vs. PPC, PDA/phone device vs. PDA + cell phone, etc. The Treo system with Documents to go seems to fit most closely, but it appears that I will be fairly mobile and I wonder if the lack of WiFi may make mobile access to e-mail difficult. The limited memory in the Treo concerns me. I know that cards are available to expand memory, but some discussion forums seemed to say that the cards do not always access the stored information smoothly and it seems that it would be a pain to keep them around.
I would prefer to avoid two devices, but would get a PPC (Dell Axim?) and cell if the Treo would not be able to handle the data I need. I would appreciate your advice on this matter.
