3G pocket PCs
      #19108 - 02/09/05 08:44 AM

Hi all.

I am about to buy the Asus A730W but I have suddenly come across an article introducing a 3G pocket PCs. I am not sure how current that article is.

Questions:

Can someone give me an short lay-man definition of 3G?

Are there any Windows OS-based 3G pocket PCs that are already commercially available? I am talking about pure pocket PCs and not pocket PC-phones.

If there is, is it recommended to buy that at the moment? Why and why not?

Thanks in advance,
Kim

3G is the newest and fastest form of celluar wireless data transfer. It's spreading at a decent rate in Europe but is barely here in the US. AT&T Wireless/Cingular offer (as 3G) it in a few metro regions and the same goes for Verizon (called EVDO).

The only Pocket PC phone offered in the US with 3G is the Audiovox PPC-6601 which has a radio that supports EVDO. EVDO is the CDMA network equivalent of GSM's 3G.
