Some questions from a PDA collector
      #19221 - 02/17/05 09:35 PM

I've recently started to collect historically interesting PDAs and now have a Psion 2, a Newton and a PalmPilot for instance. I would like to get the first PDA that had a color screen if anybody here knows which one it was, and also the first one to hit the market that had Windows CE inside. Does anyone know which one it was?

Also, what other models would you consider as collector's items?

If I remember correctly, the Philips Nino 510 was the first color screen PDA (it was a WinCE 2.11 device with a PPC form factor).

For first WinCE device, that would be the clamshell design HPO type models. I think Casio was one of the first, if not the first.

I don't know about PocketPCs, but I'm pretty sure the first Palm OS devices with color were the IIIc and the Handspring Visor Prism. I think the IIIc came first. I remember drooling over the Prism's beautiful screen at a store, and feeling despair over not having enough money for it - it was at least $300, maybe closer to $500. Today's PDAs are so much nicer for so much less money!
