Reformatting SD Card???
      #19679 - 04/08/05 03:50 PM

Hi, all! Several months ago I added a storage card (plenty of capacity) to my T-Mobile PPC Phone Edition. It had worked fine and I put things like photo viewing programs, Word docs, etc on it.

All of a sudden, I go to open some files on my Storage card, and there are a few files showing, but the language is all this weird hieroglyphics, no recognizable files at all! I have tried to restore it but with no luck. So I just want to start with a clean slate, get those "hieroglyphic" unrecognizable files off the card and put everything back on it again. To do this, I was told I should "reformat" the card, but I have no idea how to do this. Can someone walk me through the steps?

Also, can anyone tell me how to avoid this disaster again??

Thanks so much,
Cass

You'll either need to use a card reader on your PC to format the card, or get a Pocket PC utility that can format and fix cards. Oddly, the Pocket PC doesn't come with a card formatting utility but FlashFormat from www.cnetx.com will do the job.

That is odd... Palm OS has a built-in formatting utility.

In WinMobile 2003SE, if you tap and hold on a storage card in File Explorer, one of the pop-up options is Format.

I don't have that option on my WM2003SE iPAQ hx4700 using File Explorer (the app that comes with the OS). However, the excellent 3rd party app Resco File Explorer does offer that option. Is that the app you meant, Bob?

Nope. My basic File Explorer has it. But now that I think about it, I have SKTools that makes mods to File Explorer. Since SKTools can format cards, it may have added that to Explorer's menu.
