im confused about memory, i think my 4150 had 64 ram and 64 rom, but i cant for the life ofme figure out the ram/rom on the new 3715. all it says is 152 user available, and 96 ipaq files store.
i am really confused how the whole break down of memory goes in general. what was the diff in ram/rom, and the ipaq file store. thanks for clarifying,

RAM= standard SDRAM used on most PDAs and also for the memory in your PC. A several years back, Pocket PCs only had RAM for your use. You can store programs and data on RAM. It's the fastest type of memory.
Flash ROM (called iPAQ File Store by HP) is similar to the memory used in CF and SD memory cards. Unlike RAM, no power is required to preserve its contents, so even if your battery runs down completely, data and apps in File Store will surive just fine. It's a bit slower than RAM but still pretty fast. You can also store apps and data here.

Take a look at our review: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=UBB18&Number=20113 . It explains the memory breakdown under the Horsepower and Performance section. That model has 56.66 megs of RAM.

interesting that is has less ram than the 4150. my 4150 used to freeze so much, i would run skyscape medical programs off of my SD disc and whenever i would open one, i would say 1/3 times it would freeze and i would have to rest it pressing the button on the side. my hopes is that this one wont do that. i dunno if i should load my programs into that Ipaq file store or use them via SD memory again? also wiht the ipaq file store, it says 96 of the 152 is user accessible so where does that other 56 go?

Part of the flash ROM holds the operating system and some of the RAM is used as operating memory where programs run and some OS files are cached to improve speed.

very well, i think this time my med programs will go on the user memory rather than the SD slots, hopefully it wont cause it to freeze

If you continue to have problems, contact the developer of the software. Regardless of whether the software is in RAM, flash ROM or an SD card, it shouldn't freeze.
