My wife has a terrible problem keeping her palm charged. I gave her my old m500 and she cannot continue to use it since by not charging it she loses all the data. I've never had a problem with my T3 and I've left it sitting for a long time without power. Whats the cheapest model that still keeps its data when your battery is totally exhausted?

All Palms go into "dead" mode (won't turn on, etc.) when there is actually a small amount of power left in the battery, and they use that small amount to keep the data alive for days if not weeks. This should give you enough time to get it charged again if you are a responsible PDA user. So if your PDA is losing data frequently, either it is slightly defective, or you are being really careless.
However, if you are asking which Palms have nonvolatile memory, the only choices are the T|E2 and T|T5. The E2 is cheaper.

Any device that states that it has the NVFS (Non Volatile File System), which is pretty much the current line up of Palms including the Z22 (not the Zire 31), TX, T5, LifeDrive, E2.
If you have a back up program that can back up to an expansion SD card, losing battery shouldn't be a big deal since all files in RAM are backed up to the SD card and when the Palm is charged, you can restore it back to the Palm, and it will be exactly in the same state as it was before the battery drained completely.

A little warning about Palm OS. Eventhough the new ones doesn't lose the memory, its still best to hard reset the palm once in a while - ESPECIALLY if your palm resets or hangs often. Palm databases get corrupted during then, and applications may not work well anymore.

I would not recommend a hard reset if you are not experiencing any problems. Although data can become corrupted, I have used Palm devices in the past for long-term periods without corruption issues.
