Treo 700w DUN and or tethering
      #22284 - 01/10/06 11:06 PM

Greetings,

In your article about the Treo 700w you mention the DUN and tethering option... I am curious if they gave you any specific month time frame? I am in need of being able to use a Windows mobile phone as a modem but want to know if it is going to be many months or soon.

Did they give a date or specific time frame to expect the DUN/ tethering option (month, day, quarter)?
Will this work with their EVDO network? (i.e. so the laptop access will be high speed)
Will it be using bluetooth, USB or something else?

Thanks a lot! This is the only site I saw any mention of even having a DUN or package. The tech people at Verizon barely knew anything about the product. I appreciate your help.

Ben

Verizon didn't provide a specific date but it sounds like sometime in Q2 2006. You could use either Bluetooth or a USB cable to tether-- they don't care. This applies to EVDO. You can already tether using the slower 1xRTT (that's allowed, just not EVDO).

Word is, Verizon wants to charge an additional $15/mo for EVDO tethering, whenever it's available....which is now. Trial version of PDANet installs like a breeze and runs flawlessly on my 700w. Remotely logged into a corporate email server this week and sent a document in no time. June Fabrics, the developer, says a BT version is coming but advises using the USB for speed.
