Bluetooth GPS Receivers, Suggestions?
      #22880 - 03/03/06 02:04 PM

I'm in the market for a bluetooth GPS receiver for my hx4705. I travel frequently for business, regionally and want car navigation. I am looking at the Pharos PT110. Does anyone have an opinion on this unit or other they have used?

The top two BT GPS's that I like based on my research are Globalsat BT-338, and the Holux GPSlim236.

I purchased the Holux GPSlim236 based on a couple of my personal requirements. i.e. Mouse GPS function, and optional external antenna. These are both SIRFstarIII bluetooth GPS's.

The Globalsat BT-338 has much better batt. life and has a cool function in that when the BT signal goes away (i.e. you walk away with your BT PDA / Phone) the GPS goes to sleep. But it did not have the two items I really wanted. So I chose the Holux.

I'd definitely suggest you to get a GPS with SiRF III chipset as it's higher sensitive and power saving has been much improved. I'm looking at the Globalsat-338 CF receiver now, it works great in this area. My did come with an external mouse receiver which improves the signal even more if you put that on the outside part of your car with better access to the sky.

Please note the subject of this post... i.e. Blue Tooth GPS. The GPS you listed is a CF (Compact Flash) Which is a plug in card to your PDA's Compact flash slot. Blue tooth is a wireless stand alone module which you can place on your dash independent of your PDA.
