Yes, if you have a WiFi access point at home and at work.

If you edit the reg to have the phone and wi-fi option work at the same time, if I am on the net using Wi-Fi it will not use the data part of the phone will it?

Thanks

Garry

The hack just allows you to use both WiFi and the phone at once. It doesn't change your data connection. So if you're using WiFi, it will not use Verizon's EVDO service.

Thanks for registry hack. Works like it should have out of the box now. Next...

Does it support A2DP + AVRCP and has anyone tried any Bluetooth stereo headphones with it? I'm looking at the Motorola Bluetooth HT820 right now and wonder how it will work with media player.

My wife just replaced her XV6600 with an XV6700. I have now spent two nights trying to get the activesync set up. It's working, but I can't figure out how to migrate her data from the 6600 to the 6700. Also when I sync the 6600, I have a bunch more options (how to filter the data that I am syncing with Outlook) than with the 6700. Anyone have any advice?

Yes you can if you connect the phone to your notebook using the 6700's USB cable.

I connected my XV6700 to my laptop using the usb cable and activesync works fine.
However, it seems that this alone does not allow me to connect to the Internet.
What am I missing?

Hi all,

I am able to connect to WiFi or CDMA on XV6700 by an applicaiton when ever I am interested.

My PDA showing all the available WiFi access points with current status(Available/connected/Not available ...).

I viewed the list
Start->Settings->Connections->Network Cards

If I want to connect to a particular WiFi access points through an applicaiton
how can I do that ?

Do I need to access a particular registery entry?

Thanks in advance

Ok... I have gotten mixed reports. I just want to know straight up... if I turn off my phone and turn on my wifi just so I can use the wifi in my classroom do I get charged? Does verizon monitor that as data usage? Like I am connecting to my schools network, so does that require a data package?.... I am so so confused to all of this because of the fact when I got the phone the sales man told me that I had to have a $50 data plan to connect to wifi...!!! All in all I just want to know... does wifi usage cost as kb transfer?

Please help!

Really and truly: if you turn off the phone radio and turn on wifi, then use wifi for data, Verizon cannot and will not track or charge you for your wifi data use. I owned one and used it for 3 months. You do not need a data plan to use wifi.

So, this may be a fairly stupid question, but I'm new to the world of PPC PDA Phone Ownership. I've supported them for years, but never had my own.

I'm about to purchase this phone, the XV6700. What I need to know is this: In addition to the cost of the phone plan, Verizon has a $50 monthly data plan charge. Is this a fee for unlimited usage, or is the amount of data use capped? I am on the Internet probably 12-14 hours daily, most of the time working with clients via e-mail. If I am paying $50 a month to have this feature available on my phone, I want to make sure that I have unlimited use of the 'net.

Can anyone comment on this? I'm sure it's a fairly simple question, but since i am buying the phone second hand, I can't really ask the "salesman" for answers, and I don't want to drop $200 on a new toy that will only let me do half of what I need to.

Thanks in advance.

That is the unlimited data plan, yes.

I just have a few quick questions if someone could answer them soon that would be great cause im getting this phone in about a week

First I know that the regestry edit posted here is for while your using wifi does that apply when using the EVDO as well for being able to recieve calls while in use or does the phone automatically take calls when using EDVO?

Second is loding things and syncing and all the fun stuff you need a desktop computer for able to be done on a mac?

Third can you put different ringtones for different contacts?

Sorry if these questions seem easy ive never used a pocket pc or palm pilot or anything of the sort so i guess im a newbie thanks for any and all help

How about this dumb question. Does Verizon Wireless REQUIRE me to add the data plan to my account when they sell me the XV6700? Seems to me someone at the Verizon Wireless store told me that, even though I will very rarely be using data (only occasionally when I travel) and would rather pay as I go.

By the way, are there any other WiFi-enabled phones on the market?

Thanks!

Last I heard Verizon does not make their data plans mandatory (though they may try to sell you hard on it since they want to make more money). I believe they still have a MOU (minutes of use) option where you pay only for the bytes you use. But beware, that can get expensive quickly as those rates are generally high.

Wow, I'm actually able to contribute something of substance rather than just a question (speaking of which, thank you to Lisa for her quick response on my last inquiry).

iheartmy67stang: Yes, you can put individual ringtones for different callers, though not for individual numbers (at least not that I've found). So far, in working with clients and their phones, I've found that you can have up to five unique ringtones for five different contacts, but that you cannot deliniate between different phone numbers for the same contact. That is to say, if you have a contact named John Smith, but you have three different contact numbers for him, every one of those numbers will register with the same personalized ringtone. So you'll know it's John; you just won't know where he's calling from.

At least, that's what I understand from reading multiple articles and from working witha few of these phones for clients. If I'm wrong, please don't hesitate to mock me incessantly.

I have not made any regestry edits but I get calls while I'mm using WiFi but when I'm using EDVO I don't get calls... Is that a problem or is there a fix or can someone just help me figure out whats going on?

By default you should actually be able to get calls while using EVDO. The phone (should) and usually will put data on hold when a call comes in and resume the connection when the call ends. Don't know why your's isn't behaving properly.
