So I've finally decided to upgrade to an email device and am confronted with the choice between a Blackberry and a Smartphone/PDA. Which is better? I know that the B'berry uses 'Push' technology but what if I'm anyway checking my emails every 1-2 hours?
In my preliminary research, I've so far been interested in Blackberry 8703/7130 and a Samsung i730 for the Smartphone. Palm Treo700p is also on my watchlist. I'm looking at CDMA devices since I'm on Verizon.
Any user reviews, opinions on one vs the other will be really welcome.
Another duh question that I have is: Why do we need a wi-fi on the PDA when the PDA plan already offers browsing/email facilities? Is it because wi-fi gives better speeds?
thanks, will really appreciate a reply.

Folks who don't wish to pay for the data plan often are big fans of WiFi. And it is faster, though if you're in a good coverage area, EVDO is pretty darned good.
