Nintendo Shows Off News Screenshots of Zelda, Robo and Kirby on Nintendo DS
      #27741 - 06/04/07 10:40 AM

Nintend today released screenshots for nearly 10 games including The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Custom Robo Arena and Kirby Mouse Attach. Here are some of the screens released today:

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

KEY INFORMATION
The epic story of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker continues as Link finds himself lost and alone in unknown seas in a new adventure. Featuring intuitive touch-screen controls and innovative puzzles, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass offers new challenges for fans of the series and an easy-to-grasp introduction for gamers new to The Legend of Zelda. But time grows short, and only the Phantom Hourglass can buy Link the minutes he?ll need to survive.

? The stylus makes controlling Link easier than ever. Tap on the screen to make Link move, or sweep the stylus around him to swing the sword. Players can even draw a path for his boomerang and send it flying into hard-to-reach targets.

? Players can stash the map on the top screen for quick reference or drop it to the touch screen to make notes, study enemies, or chart a path for their boat to follow while they man the cannons.

? Compete with a friend over a local wireless connection: Guide Link through special dungeons to capture the Triforce, or command the forces that oppose him.

Game storyline: Many months have passed since the events of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Link, Tetra and Tetra?s band of pirates have set sail in search of new lands. They come across a patch of ocean covered in a dense fog, in which they discover an abandoned ship. Tetra falls into danger when she explores the ship alone, and Link falls into the ocean when he attempts to rescue her. When he washes up unconscious on the shores of a mysterious island, he is awakened by the sound of a fairy?s voice. With the aid of this fairy, he sets off to find Tetra ? and his way back to the seas he once knew.

Characters: Link, Tetra and a host of new characters native to the mysterious lands where Link finds himself trapped.

How to progress through the game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is controlled almost entirely by the stylus. Using the touch screen, players direct Link?s movements and attacks: A sweeping motion triggers Link?s spin attack and tapping characters makes Link speak with them. The stylus controls offer a more intuitive means of playing the game and open up new possibilities for puzzle solving.

The game action takes place primarily on the touch screen, with a map on the top screen. However, the player can inspect the map on the touch screen and make notes using the stylus. The notes on these maps are saved for review on the top screen during game play. Players use the map to chart courses for their ships, too. Using the stylus to draw a path through the islands, players set their ships? courses. Then, as the ships automatically follow the paths drawn, players can control their ships? cannons to target oncoming enemies.

In dungeons, players can use the touch screen to draw paths for boomerangs, sending them flying around corners or into otherwise unreachable areas.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: The stylus-driven game play is the most compelling new feature of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Players use the stylus to control Link, chart courses for their ships, mark notes on maps and solve puzzles in both the overworld and dungeons.

A two-player wireless battle mode pits one player, as Link, against another player who controls the enemies pursuing him. Link must collect enough Force Gems before the enemies close in.

Custom Robo Arena

KEY INFORMATION
Custom Robo: The sport of tomorrow. In the not-too-distant future, competitors battle customized robot warriors in holographic battle arenas. Victory is determined not only by fighting skill but also by how well Robo Commanders design their robot gladiators, so players need both brawn and brains to survive.

? Players explore a sci-fi landscape as they fight toward the Custom Robo championship, powering up their Robos as they go. With tons of unique parts, there are literally millions of possible Custom Robo combinations, giving players complete control over how they fight their battles.

? Players can challenge their friends to one-on-one Robo battles anytime and anywhere using either Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Multi-Card Play or DS Download Play.

? Players use the touch screen to customize every aspect of their Robo, including its weaponry, and then polish it up after every battle to bring it back to top fighting form.

Game storyline: In the not-too-distant future, mankind relies on tiny, telepathically controlled robots to perform such dangerous tasks as deep-sea research, disaster relief and interplanetary exploration. These popular and easily customized ?Robos? also form the favorite sport of tomorrow: battling in the holographic arenas called ?holosseums.? Now that criminals have taken to using these mighty miniature machines as weapons, the Custom Robo phenomenon has grown into a problem for the whole of society.

Characters: A young boy transfers to a new school, where he meets Robo-battle champion Saki, a young girl who won the championship partnered with her brother. Now, she?s looking for a new Robo Commander to groom into a champion, and in this young boy, she sees remarkable potential. However, Saki has a secret, and when the young boy discovers the truth about his new partner, his world changes forever.

How to progress through the game: The bulk of Custom Robo Arena takes place in holographic battle arenas called ?holosseums.? Players pit their Custom Robos against one another in fast-paced, melee-style combat. Each Robo can be outfitted with different parts, from arm-mounted guns and bomb launchers to specialized pod weapons that have their own unique behaviors. Some pods pursue the opponent, while others lie in wait for the enemy to draw near. Players customize their robots by swapping out weapons, legs and body frames to create the ideal combination of attack, speed and defense to suit their gaming styles.

Outside of the battle arenas, Custom Robo Arena plays like a role-playing game in which players walk through the futuristic city setting and interact with other characters as they struggle to win the Custom Robo championship. The multiplayer aspect pits two players against each another in the holosseum. Battles can be played using Multi-Card Play or Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and, if only one player has a game card, using DS Download Play.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Each Custom Robo is made up of a number of distinct parts: a body, legs, a gun, a pod pack and a bomb launcher. Each of these parts provides unique abilities. For example, guns have different ranges and effects, bombs have different blast radiuses and pods have different behaviors. Any part can be attached to any Custom Robo body. Players construct their ideal fighting robots and then take them into the holosseum to fight. Battles are a combination of the player?s skill ? not only at fighting but also at designing a superior Custom Robo.

Kirby Squeak Squad

KEY INFORMATION

Kirby's back and ready for a bellyful of adventure as he takes on a diabolical band of thieves called the Squeaks.
Players can expect all the floating, jumping and battling of a classic Kirby game, but now they can even mix abilities and recovery items using the touch screen. With more than 25 upgradeable abilities, including new ones like Animal and Bubble, Kirby will have the tools he needs to defeat his toughest foes yet.

The abilities themselves now affect the environment as well as foes. Players burn trees and grasses with the Fire Ability or freeze water with the Ice Ability as they hunt down every last treasure chest in eight huge worlds. Tons of unlockables await, from music tracks to Kirby colors to secret stages and abilities, so players must explore every nook and cranny.

This game also features three multiplayer sub-games for up to four players, either via DS Download Play or Multicard LAN play. Players test their reaction speed in Speedy Teatime, bump and battle in Smash Ride and aim for snacks in Treasure Shot.

Game storyline: When thieving mice called the Squeaks steal Kirby's snack along with a ton of Dream Land treasures, the pink powerhouse sets out after them, copying new skills as he goes.

Characters: Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, the Squeaks and many enemies, both new and old.

How to progress through the game: Players run, float and fight their way through eight worlds as Kirby, gobbling up enemies as they go. Kirby can inhale enemies and spit them out as stars, but the main game play comes from swallowing foes and copying their abilities, then using the abilities to defeat other foes and advance past obstacles. In each world, players hunt down small treasure chests, each of which holds unlockable bonuses like music tracks, Kirby colors, powered-up abilities or secret stages. They'll also find large chests, which are guarded by the Squeaks. When players find one, they must defeat the Squeak or run for the exit before it catches them.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: In this game, Kirby can mix abilities inside his belly, which appears on the touch screen of the DS. When Kirby collects abilities that float in bubbles around the world, they appear in his belly - drag them together using the touch screen to create a different ability. Players also can power up food items by combining them.
