We are putting together an iPhone FAQ for folks who are looking for some important information. Our in-depth review will be out shortly and it will have lots of good info. We will add more in real time. If you have good info, please let us know.


What do you need to use iPhone?

To use iPhone, you need:
-new two-year wireless service plan with AT&T
-Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
--Mac OS X version10.4.10 or later
--Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
--Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition
-iTunes 7.3 or later, available at www.itunes.com
-An iTunes Store account
-An Internet connection
-If you are already an AT&T customer, you will need to extend your contract for 2 years. New contract starts the day you activate an iPhone.

You must be at least 18 years old to open a new AT&T wireless account. You will need a
major credit card to open a new iTunes Store account.


How much does it cost to buy an iPhone?

The iPhone sells for $499 for the 4 gig model and $599 for an 8 gig model.


Can I get family plans with iPhone?

Yes, both single line and family plans are available when you buy the iPhone. In addition to voice plan, you must sign up for the iPhone unlimited data plan which is $20/month and includes 200 SMS. Packages with more SMS are available at a higher price.


What do I do if iPhone is defective? How many days do I have to return the phone if it doesn't work for me?

You must ship it to Apple for repair, and Apple says repairs will take 3 business days. You have 14 days to return the phone and will pay 10% re-stocking fee once the box is opened.


What comes with iPhone?

The accessories included in the iPhone package: stereo headset, dock for syncing/charging/external speaker line out, USB cable, USB AC power adapter and cleaning cloth.


What applications comes on iPhone?

Phone, Mail, Safari browser, iPod, Text for SMS, Calendar, Photos, Camera, YouTube, Stocks, Maps, Weather, Clock, Calculator, Notes and Settings.


Where is the SIM card slot? How do I get the SIM card out?

The SIM card slot is on top of the iPhone (see photos below). You will need to stick a paper clip in the hole next to the SIM card slot to eject the SIM card.



Is there a voice dialing feature on iPhone?

No. There is no voice dialing. But there is a speed dial list which is called Favorites.


What kind of connectivities does the iPhone have?

Cellular radio for making phone calls, EDGE for data, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.


How do I turn Bluetooth on?

Go to Settings->General->Bluetooth to turn on Bluetooth and put it in discoverable and searching mode.


Can iPhone sync contacts from my computer?

If you?ve set up iTunes to sync contacts, iTunes automatically keeps your contacts up-
to-date?whether you make changes on your computer or on iPhone. iTunes supports
syncing with the following applications on your computer.
-- On a Mac: Mac OS X Address Book, Microsoft Entourage, and Yahoo! Address Book
-- On a PC: Yahoo! Address Book, Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), and
Microsoft Outlook


What kind of email does iPhone support?

POP3, IMAP, Web-based email. The Mail client can view HTML content, receive attachments and display photos and images.



Which formats of songs and videos can I play on iPhone?

All formats supported by the iPhone are identical to the iPod Video. Max video resolution is 640 x 480. The following audio file formats are supported by iPhone. These include formats for audiobooks and podcasting:

-AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P, up to 320 Kbps)
-Apple Lossless (a high-quality compressed format)
-MP3 (up to 320 Kbps)
-MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
-WAV
-AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)
-AIFF

The following video file formats are supported by iPhone:
- H.264 (Baseline Profile Level 3.0)
- MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)

iPhone does not support WMA, MPEG Layer 1, MPEG Layer 2 audio files, or audible.com
format 1.


Can the iPhone's camera shoot video?

No. It only takes photos.


How to reset iPhone and kill an application?

To reset the iPhone, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

To kill an application, press and hold the Home button for at least 6 seconds until the application disappears.


What views does the Calendar application have?

List view, Day view and Month view. There is no week view.
