Java VM for Treo 700p
      #28007 - 07/05/07 09:49 PM

I have been trying to figure out a way to use the gmail for mobile application. It says that Treos are not presently supported, but gives detailed instructions on how to try it anyway. The first thing is to download a Java VM. I bought the software on the palm web site, but could not get it to work correctly. I have read various things that say that newer treos have the Java VM already installed. Do they mean that I have to get the windows version of a treo?
I really like gmail, but find the pop 3 "solution" to getting my email not satisfactory. They say that they only support blackberries on the gmail for mobile application. I have had treos for many years and like them. I really don't want to have to cough up another $30/month just to have a better email solution. Any suggestions?

The 700p doesn't come with a Java VM. You can download this one for free, which is the one we use: http://www.palm.com/us/support/jvm/download.html . I haven't tried it with GMail particularly, but it's worked for other Java-based apps.

There are a lot of folders and files you don't need to install. The ones you do need are (assuming you want US English as the main language):

In the JVM folder there's an ARM4T folder:

J9JavaVMMidp20.prc
JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc

And all the files in the JSR172 folder and all the files in the JSR75 folder.
