You know we really liked the Sony Vaio TX series in our Sony Vaio TX850 review. And we've been waiting patiently for Sony to release their new TZ series here in the US. That day has finally come, and the new TZ series has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 1.06GHz or 1.2GHz, up to 2 gigs of RAM, an internal DVD burner, web cam, 11.1" LED widescreen display and your choice of conventional or SSD hard drive. Oh, and it weighs only 2.7 pounds. Sweet.
The machine features carbon fiber casing just like the TX series, and very good battery life for a portable-- though not as good as the slower-CPU TX series. Sony quotes battery life of 4 - 7.5 hours. Some models come with a Sprint EVDO modem built-in, for high speed WAN access. The TZ is available in 4 colors, each with their own swank name like Champagne and Bordeaux Red. Prices range from $2,299 to $3,299 (ouch!) with the 1.2GHz processor and an SSD hard drive. Sony's web site shows the TZ models shipping 7/31/2007 except the Bordeaux model at 8/7/2007 (we have no idea if these dates will stick).
