1. There is no clarity whether you will be able to replace preloded N.American maps coming with the unit with new releases of these maps in the future !!! This is scary !!! This would mean that you will be stuck with preloaded maps forever ???
2. Has anybody tried to use with the unit some additional maps (European for example present on SD card) ?? If so how big the card was and how successfull were you ?? (I heard that only cards up to 1GB are guaranteed to work)

Have you already done that ??
If so can you desribe how you did it so that myself and other people can check if this works for all of us ??
These are critical issues for me when deciding on whether to purchase and keep the product or not.

If by "in the future" you mean next year, then any new maps or upgrades will probably need to be purchased from TomTom, TomTom Home can be used to purchase and load maps, other voices (celebrity), updates to POI's etc.
I have tried the Western Europe map on an SD card (2Gig) and it worked great. I have read that up to 4Gig cards will work but 8Gig don't.

So long as you have a registration code for the new map you can just overwrite the map that's loaded.
