I need to know - is the 80 gig PS3 compatible with PS2 games? I know the 60 gig is, and the 40 gig is not. I read somewhere that the 80 gig would have to be updated with S/W to be fully compatable.
So what's the deal? Purchase of the 60 vs 80 hinges on answer. Thanks.

According to Sony's FAQ here the 80 gig PS3:
"This product has limited backward compatibility with PlayStation and PlayStation2 format software. Many PlayStation2 format software titles operate, but full compatibility is not guaranteed. Updating the system software may improve compatibility."

And if you have some favs that you own and want to check out if they will run on the PS3, Sony has a support page where you can check on compatibility of individual games. Here is the page:
