The Vulcan FlipStart, a really, really, really tiny Windows PC micro PC (sorta in the UMPC category) that started shipping almost a year ago for around $2,000 is now $699. FlipStart Labs (otherwise known as Vucan, the company started by Paul Allen of Microsoft fame) made the official announcement on their web site yesterday... no one heard it thanks to MacWorld clamor no doubt.
The FlipStart literally fits in the palm of a hand and has a 1.1GHz processor, 512 megs of RAM, a 30 gig hard drive and runs your choice of Vista or XP. It's got a tiny keyboard, a 5.6" display and weighs 1.75 lbs. with the standard high capacity battery.
We don't know how long the FlipStart will be available. Our friends at www.dynamism.com clued us in and are selling it for the new price. They say that Vulcan is switching their focus to smartphones and MIDs (mobile Internet devices) instead.
