Blackjack II Help
      #29506 - 01/27/08 10:32 PM

Hey guys

I bought a Blackjack 2 today with unlimited data. Everything is working properly except the IMs. I tried Live Messenger (formerly MSN) and it would not connect! Everytime i try to sign in it says "Communication error. Please try again or check your settings." Internet explorer works fine, i also have 3G on. The funny thing is, i sign in on my laptop, then sign in on the phone, it kicks me out on the laptop but gives me that error message at the end. Also, my brother had his MSN on, and it would show that i signed in, but of course then i go offline. What's the problem? What settings is it asking me to check? Help please?
Thanks in advance.

PS: I still haven't tried Yahoo messenger nor AIM, which i will soon.

I suspect it might be the AT&T proxy which is configured in the 3G data connection settings in the phone. Go to Settings and connections, then turn off the proxy and see if you can connect. The proxy is needed to view the MediaNet portal page and to watch CV, so you'll need to turn it back on if you want to use those.

Dumb question, but how do i turn it off?

BTW, i tried Yahoo messenger and it worked, why should i turn off the proxy for msn?

MSN doesn't get along with proxies. But that's if you're using the standalone MSN application. If you're using the included IM program that handles MSN, AIM and Yahoo, then you shouldn't need to worry about the proxy. Which are you using?

I'm using the one that comes with the phone, with AIM and Yahoo! messenger.

Today i went to the AT&T store and the salesperson couldn't help me. In the end, all he told me was try to contact Hotmail or Samsung. UGH.

The problem is, when he called some technicians, one of them gave him his login ID and password and it worked just fine! It logged in and everything. But then when i try mine (i tried 2 emails, i changed the password like 3 times, nothing) it wouldn't sign in. He also tried my card with Pantech Duo, two other black BJ2, and the red one, nothing worked. Crazy! I'm gonna give Samsung a call right now to see what they have to say.

If anyone knows anything about this issue please let me know!

That is really weird that your accounts don't work but other folks' accounts do. Hmmm... When you say he tried your card in other phones, do you mean the SIM card? If that SIM card didn't work with a variety of phones I'd ask for a replacement SIM.

Oh sorry forgot to mention that. He did replace my SIM card, didn't work.

I'm soo pissed. Do you know any other MSN application for a smartphone?

There's Microsoft's own Windows Live Messenger. Check it out here; http://www.gowindowslive.com/Mobile/Landing/Messenger/Default.aspx?Locale= .

Anyone have an update on this? I've had the BJ2 for about 3 weeks now. I didn't become curious enough to really bang at this until tonight, but in retrospect I realize that I can count on one hand the number of times yahoo email or yahoo IM have actually worked for sending outbound messages. I can receive email and browse just fine. I don't want to circumvent the problem, I want it solved. I don't know if it's the carrier, Samsung, or the 3rd party software vendor, but between the three of them someone needs to own this problem.
