We previously reported about PhoneSaber by TheMacBox, everybody's favorite lightsaber simulator for iPhone and iPod touch - but it turns out there was a problem. The app was not authorized by Lucasfilm, and in fact THQ holds an exclusive license for creating Star Wars content for the App Store. PhoneSaber disappeared.
If it had followed the pattern of most companies, THQ probably would've sued TheMacBox into oblivion, created an inferior rip-off app, and then abandoned it two months later. Thankfully, THQ didn't do that.
It turns out the reason PhoneSaber disappeared was that THQ was collaborating with PhoneSaber's creators to create a new, authorized version of the app, featuring enhanced sound effects, lightsabers belonging to specific characters, and even background battle music. Lightsaber Unleashed 2.0 is now available, and yes, it's still free.
