iPhone News: Google Adds Voice Recognition To iPhone App
      #31897 - 11/18/08 09:50 PM

Google has released version 0.3.142 of the Google Mobile App for iPhone and iPod touch. This highly anticipated update adds the ability to speak queries into an iPhone's microphone, using voice recognition, rather than typing them on the virtual keyboard - a feature that isn't even available yet for Android phones.

If you've read my previous posts, you're probably tired of hearing me say, "Wow, the voice recognition really works!" - but wow, the voice recognition really works! I tested using it for Google searches, even for unusual words and people's names, and the Google Mobile App kept up with me flawlessly. Simply press "Speak Now" - or forever hold your pea... eh, this joke is too cheesy, even for me.

The new version also adds location-aware searching and retains the features of earlier versions, such as accessing Gmail, Google Earth, Google RSS Reader, and other Google products.

If you've already installed the Google Mobile App on your iPhone or iPod touch, the new update will show up automatically in iTunes (or on your mobile App Store). If you haven't installed it previously, Google Mobile App is available for free from the App Store here.
