Apple Releases iPhone 2.2 Software Update

Today Apple released a new firmware update for the iPhone. The update contains many bug fixes and improvements including enhancements to Maps, Mail, Safari and lot more. Here is more info:

The iPhone 2.2 software update enhancements:

Enhancements to Maps:
-Google Street View
-public transit and walking directions
-display address of dropped pins
-share location via email



Enhancements to Mail:
-resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
-improved formatting of wide HTML email

Improved stability and performance of Safari

Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application over Wi-Fi and cell network

Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops

Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages

Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen

Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings


The update is compatible with both the iPhone and the iPhone 3G. Plug your iPhone to the iTunes to download and install the update.

Safari is WAY more stable in 2.2!!

On the iPod Touch 2G, WiFi with WPA/WPA2 finally seems to work!!! Woohoo!!

Did you notice that, if you save bookmarks as icons to the Home screen, under 2.2 the icons will look like the site's favicon (if available) instead of them all being the same? Oh yeah!!

Mine look like a snapshot of the web page (as they did before) and not like the Favicon.

You're right. It is not a favicon.

There is an Apple article here that explains what it is, but it seems like a much more complicated process than I realized.

To see an example of an icon like that, try adding www.m-w.com to your Home screen.
