WiFi for T-mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition ?
      #3222 - 11/23/02 03:03 PM

Hi. Firstly I like this site and all the info provided. I've read that in regards to the t-mobile ppc phone edition that SDIO is not supported. Does this mean that in the first release of the SD cards offering WIFI will not work?

Also I noticed some network adpters under settings
1)AsyncMAc1 NDSWAN Adapter
2)NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver
3)PPTP1 NDSWAN Adapter

Does anyone know where to get the hardware for this to work?

I'd eventually would like to connect to a wireless lan at home/work. And possibly utilize an SD camera attachment in the future.

That's right, until T-Mobile issues an update to support SDIO, SD WiFi cards won't work. I've been told they're working on an SD camera, which also requires SDIO, so I'm hoping they'll extend support to all SDIO devices including network cards. I've never gotten a firm answer on that though.

All Pocket PC 2002 come with the generic network drivers you mentioned. Their presence, unfortuately, doesn't mean that there's hardware out there for you to buy for the T-Mobile.

There isn't an SD WiFi card for the T-Mobile unfortunately. That would be the only way. . .

But did T-Mobile ever issue an update/upgrade so the unit could support SDIO? It's definitely not on the supported device list for either the Socket or SanDisk SD WiFi cards

Haven't received any info on the upgrade. SDIO would certainly be lovely, but I just don't know.

The T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone doesn't support SDIO, which is required to use SD networking cards.

Is the wifi supported yet? I just bought this from t-m, and their service guy was clueless. Thanks in advance, and your site has been more than helpful .

The iPAQ 6300 should be available next month, and has SDIO, as well as integrated WiFi and Bluetooth. It's a nice unit, though not wickedly fast.

Here are the specs from HP's web site: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11861_na/11861_na.HTML

We hope to have a review in the next few weeks.

I hate to tell you, but the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition doesn't support SDIO which is required for SD networking cards to work. Back when that phone first came out, there were no SDIO cards on the market!

I mean the SD slot on the device doesn't have the required internal hardware to work with SD networking cards.

The T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, whether it's running the 2002 or 2003 OS, doesn't support SDIO. That means that SD networking cards will not work with it.
