Today is the official iPhone 3G S launch day. We are at an ATT corporate store at 7am and there are about 12 people waiting in the pre-order line and 10 people in the non-pre-order line. That's very small group of people compared to the mob scene last year at the iPhone 3G launch. Power to the pre-order and to the home delivery!
One thing to watch out though, they take forever to take care of each customer at the AT&T store. So the wait might still be a bit long even with shorter lines.
Only about a handful of people outside of an AT&T corporate store in Allen, TX:
Stay tuned for more updates...

iPhone 3G S launch day update:
AT&T is very organized with their pre-order customers at the AT&T store. The store manager has a list of customer names and each iPhone 3G S is shipped in an individual brown box with pre-order customer's name marked on the box.
If you are just buying the iPhone 3G S while keeping the same number and syncing content from the iTunes on your own, the process is quite fast. The AT&T sales rep. will just active your phone number and off you go.

For the 15 or so folks who lined up to buy an iPhone and who hadn't pre-ordered, things moved very quickly. They started letting those folks in at 8:45am since the pre-orders were already taken care of, and they'd serviced the 10th person in line by 9:30. AT&T reps are doing the activations in store, but that process only took about a minute (much better than last year's fiasco when Apple's activation servers overloaded).
The sales reps at the AT&T store said they have plenty left to sell to walk-in customers today!
