Plastic Logic eBook reader to use AT&T 3G and Wi-Fi
      #33733 - 07/22/09 09:40 AM

The Amazon Kindle has 3G EVDO on Sprint, so far Sony Readers have nothing, though we're betting on a 3G ATT version for the holidays, and the Plastic Logic eReader that's headed to Barnes and Noble with have both Wi-Fi and 3G on ATT-- take that, established ereaders!

The Plastic Logic eReader is designed for busines professionals (translation: high-end features and a high price). In the recent Barnes and Noble announcement, we learned that the bookseller would be offering books on that reader and there was mention of it shipping in limited quantities by the end of this year with full scale retail attack in 2010. This press release just makes mention of 2010, so don't sell your Kindle DX yet.

The ebook reader will have an 8.5 x 11 inch touch screen display. We dearly hope it's clearer than that on the touch screen Sony PRS-700.

The Plastic Logic Reader is unique among its competitors due to its plastic display, which is based on the company?s revolutionary plastic electronics technology. The eReader features the first ever, commercial high-quality plastic display and an outstanding E Ink reading experience.

Its battery lasts days. Designed specifically with mobile business users in mind, the Plastic Logic Reader will connect its users with their desired business and professional newspapers, books, periodicals and magazine content and will support the document formats business users need, including PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents.

Users will be able to connect to content and download it wirelessly through AT&T's 3G network and we assume the device will have rights to use AT&T's hotspots since the press release mentions that AT&T has 20,000 of those in the US and 90,000 abroad via roaming agreements in 89 counties.

Pricing and availability will be announced in early 2010 when it begins shipping.
