Fling! is one of those puzzles that is not only polished but also full featured, I mean, it supports iPOD music, it can properly resume, 10,000 puzzles to play with, game modes, local and online high score, statistics and a professional interface.
It is a top-notch game in all aspects. If you like the puzzle style proposed by Fling! then it is a must buy for you. By the way, the video below clearly shows the gameplay itself.
Gameplay
The goal is simple. You have to let only one furball on the board (like in a peg game).
The controls are easy. Move a furball against another one to make it go away from the board (like in a pool game).
To help you out there are the really useful Undo (bottom left) and the Hint button (bottom right).
One of the greatest thing around this simple gameplay is the three game modes (Arcade, Free Play and Challenge) that have, each one, three difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard).
As soon as you start the game the Challenge mode is selected by default (which is not as clear as one might want). In this mode you race against time to solve a set of puzzles. Your best time is recorded so you can always try to beat it.
Free Play as the name suggests is a relaxing mode. Statistics are recorded.
Finally, in Arcade mode you have to solve as much puzzles as possible in a given time. Here you have Local and Online high score.
All those modes increases the game replay value making this puzzle very captivating and brings an option to almost every kind of puzzlers out there.
Graphics
It is wonderful to see how a simple puzzle concept has such a great amount of details.
First there is a wooden and elegant interface that delivers a professional touch to the game that can catch a lot of attention by itself.
Along with that, the game has a character, the Flurball. They come in different colors and they can blink. However, I would love to see different expressions and some interaction e.g. when you make a really bad move.
The green board with a fabric style matches perfectly the overall design.
Sound
Sounds effects are subtle and the game has a good background music that fits very well with the game theme.
In addition, the game properly supports iPOD music while keeping game sounds.
Pros
Polished graphics and interface 3 game modes and 3 difficulty levels Subtle sounds and background music iPOD music along with game sounds It can properly resume Undo is more than welcomed Online high score
Cons
The default game mode is not clear at the beginning High score and statistics are kind of hidden within their game modes Few details about each game mode
Conclusion
This is a simple puzzle concept delivered in a very well designed interface. With different game modes and difficulty levels it will please almost every type of puzzle gamers.
