iPhone Game Review: Ranch Rush

iPhone Game Review: Ranch Rush
Reviewed by Leah Jennings

Ranch Rush is a time-management game, in which you have to complete different tasks in a certain amount of time.

In the game, you control Sara, the owner of the ranch. During one day (one order a day) you grow the different items on the order, and place them in the barn to check them off the order. You have different crops like wheat, tomatoes, corn, and grapes. You also have items like milk, and wool in which you would have to buy a cow and sheep. Feed the cow clover to make milk, and feed the sheep wheat to make wool. If the order calls for ketchup, you have to put 3 crates of tomatoes into the ketchup machine to make one crate of ketchup. The longer you play, the harder it gets, and the more crops they give you to grow. You can also rearrange the ranch to fit your style and improve gameplay.

You can buy more soil to plant more crops, and more animals to produce more of their products. There are some difficulties in the game, as you have to water plants, and replant plants that died.

On the last day of every week, it?s Farmer?s Market, and you take to the barn whatever crops you can get together. Some crops and products are worth more money than others. There are different trophies to earn for different feats, like completing one week without failing. The game itself isn?t very stable, it crashes a few times before loading completely, and sometimes crashes during the game.

The graphics are 3D, and 2D, depending on which part of the game you?re in. The background music is bluegrass/country music. You can?t listen to your iPod while playing, but you can turn the music and sound effects off if you like.

The game is fun to play, but gets really stressful the longer you play, which happens with all time-management games. Other games similar to Ranch Rush that you might enjoy are Diner Dash, Cake Mania, and Sally?s Spa, which is my favorite.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics: -3.5- Little blurry, but clean overall.
Sound: -3- Country music, can?t listen to your iPod.
Controls: -3- Easy to learn, not as consistent as other games like this.
Gameplay: -4- A cool idea for another time-management game.

Playing Hints and Tips:
-Arrange the ranch to utilize the time, put the crops together, put animals together, and put the barn where it?s easily accessible from all areas.

-Don?t get honey until the bees are all the way at the clover, otherwise they come back quicker.

-Buy a lot of soil, and grow a lot of crops at once, that way you?re not having to plant as often.

It's a good game and timing is almost everything here.

Hey Leah,

Was this a port of a PC or Mobile Phone game or something original for the iPhone?
