No idea what I need
      #37585 - 06/24/10 11:50 AM

I'm older and that means I'm supposedly technology challenged. Well in this case it's true. I don't need cell phone capability but I'd like a pda with wifi if its not a monthly charge. If it is then I would like a pda with color and all the scheduling capabilities including the ability to update phone numbers, appts, etc on my laptop and transfer it to my pda. I have a 515 but need to upgrade to something with better support. Any ideas. (oh! money IS and option)

There aren't many PDAs on the market anymore since they've been largely replaced by smartphones. And smartphones do involve monthly charges, unless you buy a GSM smartphone with no carrier plan and just use WiFi-- but that would be an expensive purchase without a contract subsidy.

For standalone PDAs with WiFi, the HP iPAQ is pretty decent and can sync to Outlook. You could also go with an iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is basically an iPhone minus the phone.

Here's our iPAQ review: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/HP-iPAQ-110.htm .

Thanks, I'm looking into the 110/111. I know I'm trailing the technology but can't find the use for a cell phone with a monthy bill.

I have a palm tungsten. Started with the first palm years ago and rely on syncing Outlook on my palm with my work computer and also home computer. Is there anything out there that combines this capability with a phone?

Windows Mobile smartphones sync to Outlook on the desktop and can sync to multiple computers running Outlook. So do some HTC Android phones (the ones that run HTC Sense software, a feature always mentioned if present, in our reviews).
