iPhone Game Review: Catagugl
Reviewed by SpaZtrigger

Plastic Gugl starts a new carrier as a projectile: Grab him, take some momentum and throw him as far as you can. Go through clouds to grab some air and extra speed as you deflate him, aim for the red bumpers to rebound even more.

Gameplay

Catagugl is a fun finger arcade game that's simple to play yet for some reason, you can't stop playing. You are Gugl and you start a new job as a projectile which naturally involves flying. You can do this by grabbing Gugl then you start spinning him around until a voice shouts out "GO!" then you release Gugl and watch him fly. If Gugl touches a cloud he inflates like a balloon. When you tap on him then he will soar higher by releasing the air trapped inside of him (no he is not releasing gas). Along his loooong flight, he will encounter tree tops, red balloons as well as clouds, all give your little green Gugl some help to keep him in flight and bounce just a bit longer. The gameplay is super simple, and fun. But it would have been more fun to have several flying characters that have different flying and bouncing capabilities.

Since the goal is to fly, bounce, jump and roll as far as you can, the length of the flight is actually your score, i.e. if you went 900 meters, then 900m will be you score. You can see your local score and submit to global scoreboard.

Graphics

The graphics in Catagugl are sharp and polished. Gugl is a one heck of a creature and he looks fantastic. The character and environment show imaginative game design: even for a simple game like this, it can be eye-catching. Gugl changes shapes as it makes contact with the environment, moves very smoothly and responsive to the touch controls. The spinning on the screen motion can be very frantic, and the game handles it well.

Sound

Catagugl has a tight audio package. When you spin Gugl there is a tight squeezy toy sound that winds up, then you let go of Gugl, a comical, fast beat music track starts and companies his flight, then when Gugl stops, the music track ends. It?s simple but tight, fits the game play well. If you wish to listen to your own iPod music, you can do that in Catagugl.

Conclusion

Catagugl is a fun game for players of all ages. It?d be a fun title to play with your kids and see who can make Gugl go the longest. The game has eye catching graphics, cute and funny sound, and potentially endless replay value.
