iPhone App Review: EpicWin
Reviewed by SpaZtrigger

Dreading your daily tasks and procrastinating some big job? Fear not, EpicWin to the rescue. EpicWin is a task management app, but this isn't your normal to-do list. It combines the elements of an RPG (Role Playing Game) with a to-do list, making your chores Quests, your completions Epic Wins! You get experience points after you complete your tasks, and earn loot along the way. Have you ever had any to-do list app quite like this?

Features

EpicWin is one great to-do app for those who also like gaming. The tasks in EpicWin are called quests and you can assign each task some epic points which will help you level up your avatar. Who doesn?t enjoy performing chores like they are playing an RPG? You can choose one of five avatars: a Dwarf, a Warrior Priestess, a Skelton, a Warrior, and a Treeman. Sadly two out of five avatars are DLC (DownLoadable Content) which means you will need to pay. After you choose you avatar you give him or her a name, then you will be brought to a task screen where you will make all your tasks.

We?ve already assigned ourselves Quests, now what? Now you earn experience points, EXP, just like you do in Zelda or other RPGs. Going through the tutorial earns you some basic EXP, and now when you complete a quest, you tap and hold the quest to engage an in-game animated battle scene where your quest and avatar duke it out on the screen. After your avatar beating up the quest you get the EXP or in this case Epic Points. You?ve never seen a task app doing this, have you?

That?s not all. EpicWin takes the RGP element even further. Gaining Epic points not only levels you up, it also allows you to travel certain distances on the Map view screen. The more Epic points you earn, the farther you get, until you obtain some loot. When you obtain loot you can go posting it around Facebook or twitter and brag all about your new prize. Now we just need something to do in real life! Since using EpicWin task management app is like playing a simple RPG, there is cheating also. Just set your Epic points on a quest to max and keep making those quests and beat them. You will rake in major points and loot. But then again, you also defeat the purpose of the task managing aspect of the App.

It?s no doubt that EpicWin isn?t your usual to-do list app, and unlike many other to-do apps, EpicWin doesn't have many additional features like push notification, notes, and many other features. One thing that gives us hope though, the developers have promised an update that will include many needed improvements. Will we see an axe-wielding Dwarf coming on our iPhone screen and screaming ?Have you done your Dry-Cleaning-Quest?? Ha!

Graphics

Graphics are what make EpicWin unique and on a to-do app graphics are more important than you think. The user interface often makes or breaks a to-do app, and the graphics in EpicWin are polish with a unique twist. Not only does EpicWin have special and epic graphics, it also has incredibly well designed loot. Why else would people go through such measures to do what they put on a to-do app? In EpicWin people do backbreaking tasks for loot. Mind you, these aren't our everyday loot of pencils and iPods, instead they're completely wacky items like the Paperclip of Warped holding. Controls are simple too, you can use your finger to type, to scroll, and everything else, smooth without glitches.

Sound

How many task management apps have music and sound FX? EpicWin has both, though the in-app music has very low volume. The app also allows you to play your own iPod tracks. The in-app music has a couple of varieties, like when your quest engage in an epic battle the music changes into a fight theme that sets the mood for the Epic fight. In the Sound FX department EpicWin does alright. After you brutally assault and defeat a quest, you hear gold coins piling up sound. If you beat a quest and you get loot then you'll hear a treasure chest open.

Conclusion

For a sum of $2.99 Epicwin has just the right price for a fun and enticing to-do app. If you are a gamer, especially an RPG fan, you?d love this app! User interface is awesome, visual are very cool and the idea is just so unique. The app needs more to-do app features like push notification, etc., but the developers have promised more updates. So if you want to have just a list where you can cross off, then look elsewhere. But if you want to make your daily chores a fun adventure, get EpicWin now!
