We just received word from the folks at Barnes and Noble that they'll be releasing a firmware update for the Nook ebook reader (both WiFi and 3G models) that dramatically increases page turn speed and ads syncing last read page between devices on various platforms. The update will be availalable in November via WiFi and manual download from www.nook.com/support .
Here are the other goodies B&N promise in this 1.5 firmware:
"In its biggest update yet since NOOK was launched one year ago, Barnes & Noble will dramatically increase NOOK 3G and NOOK Wi-Fi?s page turn speed and deliver the features and performance enhancements most-requested from NOOK customers. These include improved search on the device, customized Barnes & Noble Library organization and password protection. The update also includes the ability to read continuously across all NOOK and all devices enabled with our free NOOK apps, by syncing your last page read. If you forget your NOOK at home, use the free NOOK app for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android smartphone or PC to pick up where you left off. And when you?re reunited with your NOOK eReader again, the Reading Now page will be updated and ready to go.
In other NOOK news, NOOK for Android, part of Barnes & Noble?s suite of free NOOK apps, will also be getting an update, expected later this week. NOOK for Android v2.3 includes many customer-requested features including the ability to ?Go To? a specific page number, search within a book, view highlights and notes, delete books from the library, plus an updated home screen and enhancements to make reading and managing side-loaded content easier."

I'm hoping this is a good update. I got a nook after researching features and book compatibility, but even though it does well in those areas, I must admit I have also found it to be big, heavy, and buggy.
I do like it, but sometimes I wonder if I should've just gotten a Kindle. B&N could at least scratch "buggy" off the negatives list with updates.
