Video review: LG Optimus S Android smartphone on Sprint for $50
      #39158 - 11/17/10 12:05 AM

Bad times bring good prices, and sometimes you actually get a decent product by spending less. The LG Optimus S is one of Sprint's 3 new Android smartphones running their Sprint ID service that helps you quickly customize the phone to suit your interests by downloading packs of free widgets and apps. While the more expensive Samsung Transform and Sanyo Zio buckle under Sprint ID's weight, the Optimus S handles it fine. It's also the only Sprint ID Android phone to run Android OS 2.2 Froyo, which undoubtedly helps with speed.

The Optimus S is a close relative to the Optimus T on T-Mobile, and it has a solid build, feels good in the hand and doesn't show fingerprints thanks to a soft touch finish. Our review unit is purple, but at the moment, the phone is only available in charcoal.

The LG Optimus has:
Android OS 2.2 Froyo with Sprint ID software
600MHz CPU
3.2" HVGA 320 x 480 capacitive multi-touch display
GPS that works with Google Maps and TeleNav
WiFi
Bluetooth
3.2 megapixel camera
microSD card slot with a 2 gig card included.

If you're on a tight budget and want a smartphone that costs less than many feature phones but does a lot more, you could do worse than the LG Optimus S.

Here's our video review of the LG Optimus S:
