iPad Game Review: Tilt to Live HD
Reviewed by Abisco / Abbass-Ali Siwjee

Originally released for the iPhone and iPod touch almost a year ago, the team at OneManLeft have finally ported over the game along with all 3 of the modes introduced later on via updates to the iPad platform with improved graphics, and a different gauntlet mode. The original iPhone game gained critical acclaim from everyone, and to me, is to the iOS platform what Geometry Wars is to Xbox Live. And yes, the port is EVEN better. Tilt to Live HD is a free to play app that comes with 4 weapons, and the classic mode, which can then be upgrades to the full game for $2.99 USD via In-app purchase.

Really across all 4 gameplay modes, the gameplay comes down to one main element: Tilting. The object of the game is GENERALLY to avoid the red dots that are trying to kill your pointy arrow-shaped hero. You tilt to get away from them, and thankfully you can pick up orbs that can help survive. Orbs are like weapons, for example the "Nuke" sets off a bomb, or the missiles shoot off missiles, etc. The whole point of the game is to get a better score then last time by going longer and going in the game. Don?t be discouraged if you get pretty low scores in the beginning, you will get the hang of it and before long you will totally rip through the evil red dots via MANY different means.

If you have played Tilt to Live on the iPhone before, let me tell you that the Tilt to Live HD version is the DEFINITIVE version of the already amazing game! It really is one of the BEST games for the iPad and if this is the only line you read in this review, let it make it clear to you: If you have an iPad, but do NOT have this game, you are doing a disservice to yourself, your ipad, and your country. Now that that?s out of the way, let me get out into the clear what makes this game so freaking awesome. The games mechanics really don't require much thought, it can be as simplistic as you want it to be, but underneath the layers of simplicity, and there lies a very deep game. The red dots, although start out seemingly random enough, begin to spawn in various different patterns, which really shake up the gameplay. The first 2 modes are classic, and code red, both being the usual affair of tilting to survive, the other 2 are different in how you interact with the red dots. In gauntlet mode the red dots take on certain shapes and try to skewer you to death. You must dodge and gain the point orbs, which in turn grants you points. Frostbite on the other hand has frozen red dots falling from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen, when they touch the bottom they become unfrozen and chase you. So breaking apart the frozen ones before they become unfrozen is essential, and after killing enough of them, you gain a weapon named a burnicade, which creates a fire wall. All 4 modes are great fun, and it?s nice to have a lot of variety to go on.

The graphics on the iPhone version were amazing, clean, simple, easy to understand with orbs vibrant and stunning to look at. The iPad version follows this tradition gracefully, everything has been bumped up a notch that made it even more AWESOME. Everything looks much more cleaner, and the big screen really helps you dodge and destroy the evil red dots! The fact that the HD version has a 4x larger playing field than the iphone version also helps create a totally different experience for players.

The game has both soundtracks and sound effects. The music tracks are very unique and REALLY fun to listen to, and you never really get bored of it. Each orb also has their own sound effect so when you are stringing together many different orbs it?s great to have all these sound effects going on making you feel like YEAH, I JUST PULLED THAT OFF!

Tilt to live HD is a necessity for all iPad owners. It?s fun, fast, beautiful and can hold your attention for a VERY long time. If you don't have this game, I advise you to get it right now!

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics: - 5 - The game is bustling with life, everything looks beautiful on this game, yet really simplistic so that you can concentrate on the gameplay.
Sound: - 4.5 - Odd music, but compliments the game really well. Sound effects are great too and fit the game really well.
Controls: - 5 - You have so many different choices for controls its hard to argue with it. The game is ABOUT tilting, and the tilting is spot on after calibrating.
Gameplay: - 5 - Lots of gameplay modes, all of them being a lot of fun make this game a great buy.

Playing Hints and Tips:

Try classic mode a few times first, you unlock new weapons as you unlock achievements. So look at the achievement list, pick some you want to concentrate on and go for them. Also calibrate before every game, you will have spot on controls every single time and should have no trouble with tilting if you ensure you do it every time you start up the game (takes about 5 seconds to calibrate so don't worry about it taking too much time)
