iPhone Game Review: Wackylands Boss
Reviewed by SpaZtrigger

Every time you read a fairytale it's always the same story (except in Shrek): a princess getting rescued by Prince Charming, but in order to save the princess there is always a battle against the evil boss and defeat him in the end, then the princess and Prince Charming live happily ever after. Bosses are always getting beat up, but in Wackylands Boss YOU are the boss. Thanks to you the kingdom will never experience a "Happily Ever After"!

Gameplay

Wackylands Boss features two game modes. One is the Story mode and the other is mini-games (although mini-games are unlocked after you finish a world). As soon as you open the app you can create a boss and equip him and customize his look. Once you are happy with his look and equipment you can begin the story mode or play mini-games.

In the beginning you're just an average boss with big dreams and so you go to a castle and gobble up princesses and knights in their shining armor, yum! You get to do this for 3 whole worlds before your boss conquers the kingdom. As you beat the good guys you can earn EXP and level up (yes, bosses can level up), getting stronger, faster and wiser. At the end of each level you are forced to fight another boss made by magical wizards. After you beat that boss you get to take over his body. Basically what that means is that you get bosses? bodies (which you can equip in the evolve menu). Each body has their own perks so try to use all of them.

Eating princesses and bashing knights can give you mountains of money, which you can spend to buy accessories. These accessories are there just to make you look good, but they will boost some of your important stats or all of your stats. Also when you level up enough you can learn special attacks like stomp, which become essential in later on fights.

With a princess eating and knight bashing swagger, the gameplay in Wackylands Boss is simple and sweet. Although Knights can get a bit boring to bash, fighting the boss at the end is fun like no other. With many games now using Game Center multiplayer feature, it would been cool to see a multiplayer boss battle mode! But there is leaderboard integration with Chillingo?s own Crystal and you can also post your achievements on Facebook and Twitter.

Graphics

Each game is unique in its own way, whether it be graphics or gameplay. In Wacklands Boss both things are unique. The developers have managed to make the boss of your dreams come to life with great graphics and by allowing users to customize their own boss. Sure, you might be feeling regret from ruining those "Happily Ever After" fairytales, but the graphics alone will make you forget the sins and only focus on the fun. Nothing makes a day like wreaking havoc with your own EPIC boss.

The gameplay and graphics are fantastic and so are the controls. With the new update that came out recently, you get new (and improved) controls and new Christmas worlds. The previous controls were alright but a bit frustrating to get used to and with the new update the new controls made the game more easier to play.

Sound

Wackylands Boss is what an app should be like. With thousands of apps in the AppStore, an app must have unique qualities to get to the top and Wackylands boss has that quality. In the music department Wackylands Boss shines like no other. The music has a catchy rhythm that fits the castle destroying theme of the game. Sadly there is no option to play your music in the game.

Conclusion

Wackylands Boss is one of the more unique games in Chillingo?s large iPhone, iPod touch and iPad collection. This addictive and fun game brings you a whole new experience in the Dark Side and hey, for $1 it's worth it. Just think of it like Mario, except you play as Bowser...but waaaaaaay more Epic.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics: - 4.5 - The graphics are great but having retina display would be better.
Sound: - 4.5 - Vey catchy and fun tunes but some gamers might prefer to listen to your own music.
Controls: - 5 - The new control update fixed everything. Simple and fun to use.
Gameplay: - 5 - Brings a whole new experience and showing you the dark side.

Playing Hints and Tips:

-When surrounded by tons of enemies keep dodging until you get to a space with no enemies.

-Grab a princess and try to hold onto her until you get to a boss fight then gobble her up for health.
