iPhone Game Review: Gravity Guy Reviewed by ninjackid
Miniclip, the developers of the well-known Fragger, has brought a new game called Gravity Guy to the iOS. If you've ever wondered how it would be to have the power to change gravity, then read on.
It's sometime in the future and people who can change gravity are prohibited to do so under pain of arrest. But our beloved Gravity Guy has busted out of jail, and is running from the law.
The game has three modes, the main one being the story mode that has 30 levels and 3 different worlds, a practice mode, and a local multiplayer mode. Controlling the entire game is as simple as merely tapping the screen to change gravity, but you have to time it right to avoid obstacles and falling into empty space. Should you die by getting caught or falling, you start again at the last level checkpoint.
And that's all there is to the story mode. But don't be fooled into thinking this is as simple as it sounds, because eventually as you progress Gravity Guy starts to pick up speed and runs at breakneck speeds and you have to act fast to stay alive. The story mode is very fun and challenging enough to keep you occupied for a while, but the lack of a single player endless high score mode is apparent, especially for a game of this type.
The multiplayer mode, now, adds a very interesting aspect to the game. It's like the story mode without the police chasing you, only in this mode up to 4 players can play on the same device.
This can actually work pretty well with two players, but having four people gathering around the same small device can be rather cumbersome, especially when things start to ramp up.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics are done well, and have an overall cartoony look to them that looks great, even when things are going super fast. Character design is top notch and running moves also look good.
The sound is another department where this game is done well, with sound effects and soundtracks that go well with the game and its theme. iPod music supported.
Gravity Guy is one of those games that are really fun, but also can be frustrating for some. A must have for fans of casual action games as the gameplay is addictive and will see you keep coming back to try to get better at it. There is a good amount of gameplay and the multiplayer mode on the same device adds an interesting playing mode. The game certainly has an unique style that you won?t find in many other games.
Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):
Graphics: - 5 - Great cartoony graphics look good and fit the game well. Sound: - 4.5 - Fun, adrenaline-pumping soundtracks and good sound effects. Controls: - 5 - Simple one-button type control scheme works very well. Gameplay: - 4.5 - A fun casual action game, but can be frustrating for those who don?t have the patience; good story mode but no endless mode.
