The 3.5 lb. HP Pavilion dm1z is a tweener: it's faster than a netbook but not quite as bright as an ultraportable or standard sized laptop. The 11.6" dm1z runs on AMD's new Fusion platform with the AMD Zacate dual core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz and AMD Radeon HD 6310M graphics on the same chip as the CPU. The HP does particularly well with video playback compared to netbooks and it wildly outperforms AMD's Neo in terms of heat and battery life.
Other features include a 1366 x 768 LED backlit gloss display, 2 or 3 gigs of DDR3 RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, WiFi and Bluetooth. If you're looking for something smarter than a netbook but less expensive than an ultraportable, the $500 dm1z is a good bet.
