Samsung makes Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Honeycomb Tablet official at MWC
      #39956 - 02/13/11 06:56 PM

Today in Barcelona at the MWC trade show, Samsung officially announced and showed off their 10" Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1. This Android OS 3.0 Honeycomb tablet runs on a dual core Tegra 2 CPU and will have 16 or 32 gigs of storage. It has a sharp 1280 x 800 TFT display (sorry, Super AMOLEDs don't come this large) and HSPA+ 4G on overseas and AT&T bands (850/900/1900/2100MHz). Looks like T-Mobile folks will have to made do with the LG G Slate.

It has a whopping 6860 mAh Lithium Ion battery (that's more mA's than many laptops), so we expect long runtimes.

Of course it has the usual WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a GPS with compass. Also on board are a gyroscope and accelerometer. It's lighter than the iPad at 1.23 lbs. and has a grippy back (gone is that slippery gloss finish used on the 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab.

It will run Android OS 3.0 Honeycomb unfettered by TouchWiz. It seems the first round of Honeycomb tablets all run a straight Google Experience with no manufacturer UI additions.

The rear main camera is an 8 megapixel job that can shoot 1080p video. There's a front-facing video chat camera at an impressive 2MP resolution.

Price and availability? Stay tuned!
