Samsung Galaxy S 4G Video Review
      #40016 - 02/18/11 02:39 PM

The Samsung Vibrant, T-Mobile's version of the original Galaxy S has been a wildly popular phone. That's no wonder: it was light, thin, fast and it had a vibrant and bright Super AMOLED display.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the successor to the Vibrant, and it sports the same Samsung Hummingbird 1GHz single core ARM Cortex-A8 CPU with graphics acceleration, a 4" Super AMOLED display and Samsung TouchWiz over Android OS 2.2 Froyo.

What's new? The Galaxy S 4G has a VGA front-facing video conference camera that works with the included Qik application for free video calls over WiFi, 3G and 4G. It has HSPA+ 4G 21 Mpbs vs. the Vibrant's 3G HSDPA 7.2Mpbs and the back has been redesigned. The back cover is no longer slippery piano black gloss plastic, but rather an indescribable non-slip metallic looking plastic job.

Also new is that elusive Froyo Android OS 2.2. For $199 with contract starting February 23, the Galaxy S 4G is a solid Android smartphone. It faces some serious competition from T-Mobile's own myTouch 4G, but that 4" Super AMOLED is hard to resist.

The movie Inception is bundled on the included microSD card and the phone has Samsung's MediaHub for movie and TV show rental and purchase, T-Mobile TV, Flash 10.1, TeleNav and the usual WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth and a GPS.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G has both WiFi calling and the Mobile Hotspot feature where you can turn your phone into a WiFi access point that shares your phone's 3G/4G connection with laptops and other clients.

Here's our video review of the Samsung Galaxy S 4G:

Our full written review will be out by next week.
