Checking into more about Book Crawler? There is a lot more stuff you can do with the app on the iOS devices. Here's some of the stuff you can do on the iPhone and iPod touch that's very useful: (info from Book Crawler's docs)
For iPhone and iPod Touch
The home screen provides you with three ways to view books. You can view the entire list (by selecting Books), you can view books by authors (by selecting Authors), or you can view the books within a collection (by selecting Collections). The home screen also provides a link to the Settings page.
* Settings The settings page contains application settings, documentation, statistics, importing/exporting, and email support.
o Email support 1. Select yes or no for attaching debug files to the email. Selecting yes will include your data file which is a snapshot of all information entered into the application. This also contains valuable information to help the developer in case a problem arises with your application. 2. Click "Send" to submit your email.
o Web Access Web access provides you with an outside interface for interacting with Book Crawler. If your device is on a WiFi network, enter the specified web address into a browser on your computer. Here you will have the ability to import/export a CSV file (format can be found at chiisai.com under Documentation -> CSV Instructions), backup/restore your database, or view your database directly in the web browser. CSV and database files can also be imported and exported through Dropbox, if you prefer. You can also email your files or import them from a URL (this must be an immediate download).
o Update Entries "Update Entries" can be used to automatically fetch data for books that were not added via Google searches. You can update your entries by searching for books that have an ISBN. Alternatively, you can have Book Crawler select an edition for you if you are not concerned about cataloging a specific edition.
o Entry Defaults The entry defaults are used to fill in default values for fields when entering a new book. To select a new value, clear the search field by pressing the "x" button. This will list all current possible values. You can also type in a new value. Press "Save" to put the change into effect.
o Condensed Display "Condensed Display" will only list the title, author, and copyright when viewing books.
o Large Database "Large Database" is an optimization intended for larger databases (~1000+).
o Predefined Genres/Formats Set "Predefined Genres/Formats" to "OFF" to remove the pre-defined values that aren't being used.
o Custom Label "Custom Label" sets the label for the custom field. This will help you keep track of what you are using this custom field for.
o Input Method "Input Method" defines the default input method to use when adding new books. It allows you to circumvent the menu option when you intend to select the same option each time. o Web Access Port The web access port controls the port number that the web server will try to communicate with your web browser. You can change this value if an error ever causes this port to temporarily shutdown.
Books can be viewed in entirety or by a collection (subset). Books can be sorted by title, author, copyright, genre, rating, date read, own status, format, loan, price, custom, or collection (if applicable). The tab bar on the bottom screen provides you with the ability to switch between these views. Selecting "More" from the tab bar gives you the option to select from a sort method not initially visible. From the "More" screen select "Edit" in the upper right-hand corner to drag any desired options to the tab bar. Only four sort options can be displayed at once. Once you have your optimal configuration, select "Done". Your configuration will automatically be saved. To get back to the "Home" screen from the "More" screen, you need to select an icon from the tab bar (other than More) and the "Home" button will reappear in the navigation bar in the upper left-hand corner.
The artwork for the books can also be viewed by turning your iPhone/iPod Touch horizontally.
o Search books Titles can be searched by entering a keyword in the search bar at the top of the view. This will show only the books that contain that string in its title. When finished, clear the string and select "Cancel".
o Adding a new book + ISBN Scanner - Scan a book's ISBN from the camera using pic2shop. + Google Books - Enter an ISBN or a title and/or author to search Google Books + Manually - This is the same as Google Books but to be used when an internet connection is not immediately available. Enter your information in the appropriate fields and when a connection becomes available, press "Select Edition" to begin the search.
Select "New" in the upper right hand corner to add a new book. Unless you have selected an input method from the settings page, you will be given a choice of input source. A title is required before the book can be saved to your database. Selecting "Save" from the upper-right hand corner of the navigation bar will take you out of the edit-mode. This will keep you from accidentally making changes to your entry. If you select "Cancel" before your changes have been saved, you will be prompted to save or discard your changes before returning to the previous screen.
Viewing a book
o Editing genre / author / format / collection The screens for entering/editing a genre, author, format, or collection are all similar. Select the "x" in the search bar to clear your entry and start typing your value. Currently known values are displayed in the list below. Select "Save" to enter your new value or "Cancel" to keep your old value.
o Editing ISBN Contains a field for both the ISBN and ISBN-13. An ISBN keyboard will appear when a field is selected for editing. The ISBN must contain 10 characters and the ISBN-13 must contain 13 characters.
o Editing copyright The copyright screen allows you to enter/edit two different dates. The "Original" copyright is reserved for the first edition whereas the "Edition" copyright is specific to the edition you are editing/viewing. The two copyright dates are maintained so that you can sort your books by the original copyright. This is helpful when you are trying to pull up the order of books in a series.
o Editing date read The date read screen will allow you to enter the date that you read a book once "YES" is selected. If you don't remember when you read the book, just select the distant past.
o Searching for editions + Filtering by language + To filter the list of books found by language, enter you preferred language and select "YES". The filtering is done by the ISBN country code, so if no ISBN was found, the edition will be filtered out. Filtering by title
Filtering the books by title will only display the books that have an exact match for the title entered on the previous screen.
To look up your edition using Google, you will need an internet connection (either through Wi-FI or 3G). The edition is searched by the title, author, and/or isbn. Books with the Google preview icon in the lower left-hand corner have a preview available on Google's website.
o Edition Information The edition information is pulled from Google Books. An internet connection is necessary to retrieve this information as well. An overview, preview link (when available), edition information, and list of subjects will be displayed.
Authors can be sorted by name or rating.
o Adding a new author Select "New" in the upper right hand corner to add a new author. A name is required before the author can be saved to your database. Once you have entered a name, you can press "Search For Books By Author" to look up books by the author via Google's Book Search. You can also select "Add Book" to add a book by hand while you are in edit mode.
Viewing an author
When entering edit mode (upper right-hand corner), you will be able to delete and add books. Items listed in blue indicates the book has not been read conversely items in black indicate the item has been read. Books are sorted first by series, then by original copyright. Turning your iPhone/iPod touch horizontally will display book artwork.
o Searching books by author + Filtering by language + To filter the list of books found by language, enter you preferred language and select "YES". The filtering is done by the ISBN country code, so if no ISBN was found, the edition will be filtered out. Filtering by undiscovered Filtering the books by "undiscovered" will only display the books that haven't previously been entered into your database. Select as many books as you wish to add by touching each item. You will see a checkmark on the right-hand side indicating that the book is selected for insertion. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and touch "Save Selected Books" to insert the entries into the database.
Collections represent a subset of books grouped together by some common factor, e.g. a wish list.
o Adding a new collection Select "New" in the upper right hand corner to add a new collection. Enter a name and an optional comment. The entry cannot be saved unless a name is present. Only set a collection to "smart" if you intend to apply rules. Add rules if you wish for the collections to be maintained without your direct intervention. As an example, you can set up a collection for books that are marked as read and another for books that are marked as unread. When you define a book as unread, it will automatically be placed in your unread collection, and when you change the book to read, it will be moved to your read collection. Press the "all/any" button to switch between matching all rules or any of them.
Viewing a collection
Books in a collection are viewed by selecting the name of the collection after pressing the "Collections" button from the home screen.
* Editing a collection After pressing the "Collections" button from the home screen, press "Edit", then select the collection you wish to edit further.
* Deleting entries Entries can be deleted by swiping an item from left to right. When the red delete button appears press it, or touch elsewhere and the action will be cancelled. This applies to books, authors, and collections.
* Misc Black titles indicate that a book is marked as read where as blue titles indicate that a book is unread. A checkmark indicates that a book is owned.
