iPhone Game Review: Puckerz!
Reviewed by ninjackid

Try blending a Breakout and Pinball, along with fast paced synth beats and great neon graphics and what do get? You get Puckerz! By Groundbreaking Games!

Gameplay

The whole idea of Puckerz is to gather all the orbs in each level in the time limit, by shooting your puck in the right direction. As soon as you start playing you are given the choice to select which puck you will use, each of which with their own unique design and color. The game contains quite a few levels in which the objective is the same in all, to gather all the orbs in the smallest amount of time possible. You are then graded when you complete the level on how well you did.

Controlling the game is as simple as tapping your puck and pulling back to set the power and angle and then release it to send your puck flying across the screen bouncing around until it comes to a stop by either losing momentum or by running into a black hole which decreases 10 seconds form your overall time. When your puck stops, you just pull it back and release it again and again in efforts to try and collect all the orbs until the time runs out.

As you progress through the game more power-ups and power-downs are added to the game to help or hinder your efforts to beat high scores. These include a cannon to shoot your puck in a random direction if you hit it, an orb that increases your speed, and more. Puckerz also features an online leaderboard system to compete your scores with others.

While game is fun with a pure casual game and pick up and play style, Puckerz is not without its minor flaws. Sometimes your shots can feel like they're based on luck and chance and you feel like you don't really have much control over your puck, as shots are completely random. Also the game sometimes feels somewhat lacking in depth, as the game hardly changes through each level besides the power-ups and small increase in difficulty level.

Graphics & Sound

The graphics have an awesome neon design that works perfect with the games overall theme and are very well polished.

Sound is also done extremely well. The music is actually perfect for the game and the sound effects aren't far behind either. iPod music is supported.

Conclusion

Puckerz! is a great little title for those who are looking for a fast, fun and well-polished casual game to waste a few minutes on. It?s easy to pick up and play, and will hold your attention with fun gameplay and cool graphics and sound. The blend of two genres makes it interesting and if you are the overachieving kind, there is a leaderboard, so help yourself.
