HTC Desire HD (Ace) or Nexus S?
      #40410 - 04/11/11 04:55 PM

Hey guys! I'm stuck with yet another decision. I don't know which phone to get! I want to get the Desire HD (same form factor of the HD7, and same internals pretty much! Just different OS) or the Nexus S. For me, battery life is really important as I spend all day on my phone (music, pictures, messaging, and remote desktoping). I'm coming from the iPhone 4 at the moment, love it, but its tiny screen is killing me. I have read that the Desire HD and HD7 have VERY bad battery life. Where as some places say that the Nexus S has FANTASTIC battery life!

Maybe could someone enlighten me on both? I would PREFER the Desire HD for its larger screen, but if I can't get through the majority of the day with it, then it's worthless. Today for example I had my iPhone 4 with full bars on 3G drop from 100% to 50% in 3.5 hours of near constant use of navigation (pictures / browsing / emails / whatsapp & gtalk) and music for 2 hours of the 3.5.

I've had the dell streak, fantastic phone with horrid battery life while listening to mp3s. I'm now tired of iOS and I want something with Android permanently.

What do you think? Which would be better?

Thanks in advance.

I have both the US version of the Desire HD and the Nexus S, and the Nexus S easily wins for battery life. The Desire HD has a small battery life and a large display-- not a winning combo for stamina.

I also have the Streak 5, and actually found the battery life to be pretty decent (I don't listen to music much though).

Whatever you do buy, you might want to buy a spare battery so you can swap it in-- now that you don't have an iPhone, that's an option .

Yeah! I'm excited. Thanks for the post about the battery life. Would you say the HD would last a good while? Or is it true that within 4 hours of use it would be dead?

Now, battery life aside, which would you pick, Lisa? You've always had fantastic reviews! So which phone would you pick? Each has pros and cons, such as HD recording on the Nexus S, and the lower battery life on the DHD. I'm mostly a texter (whatsapp, emails, IM, etc), so the larger screen makes it very enticing, but if it will die on me in a few hours then that's a big no no. Whatever you can tell me is greatly appreciated

Kent.

It sounds like you give your battery a workout each day, so I'd say the Desire HD might just be dead in 4 hours.

Battery life aside, my current two phones are the Dell Streak 5 and Nexus S. I love the pocketable tablet experience and (for me) decent battery life of the Dell and I love the clean Android install on the Nexus S along with the pretty good camera and Super AMOLED display. Once you get used to that 5" display on the Dell, it is hard to go back to a small display though, and I can understand your interest in the Desire HD.

In several more months the HTC Sensation will be out, also with a 4.3" display running at even higher resolution. But with a large display and dual core CPU, I don't hold much hope for great battery life.
