Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5
What's Hot: Well made, high quality material and stitching, very stylish.
What's Not: It does add some thickness to the iPad 2, no cut out for the rear camera.
M-Edge made its name dressing up ebook readers. We were impressed by their cases for the Nook, but the M-Edge Custom Jacket brings style and design to a whole new level. These Custom Jackets look like very well made cloth book covers, and you can design your own with patterns, text and picture; or use M-Edge's Style Library that includes designs by well-known artists from around the world, and our favorite "Out of Print" designs that use actually book covers of famous novels such as Catch 22, Of Mice and Man and much more. The M-Edge Custom Jacket is a portfolio style case and protects the entire tablet and it works with both the original iPad and the iPad 2.
If you are a bookish person, you will absolutely love the M-Edge Custom Jacket for iPad 2. The case opens like a book: the right side has four corner pockets to secure your iPad, and the left side protects the screen when closed. It?s easy to slide the iPad 2 into the corner pockets; just make sure you slide into the bottom corners first as the top two corner pockets have small elastic strips to help you put the tablet in easily. The pockets can also accommodate the original iPad. Once in the pockets, the iPad 2 feels very secure and doesn?t move at all. The M-Edge Custom Jacket has micro suede interior that feels soft and won?t scratch the surface of the iPad 2. The case has rigid structure with thick soft padding that provides lots of protection. Since the case doesn?t cover up the sides of the tablet, all ports, buttons and the speaker grill are exposed for easy access. The case doesn?t offer a cutout for the camera on the back of the iPad 2.
Outside the M-Edge Custom Jacket has sturdy canvas with leather binding that makes the case look like a book and classy. Though the case adds some bulk thanks to the thick padding and rigid spine, the case only weighs 10.2 oz. and feels very protective. The print of the graphics and text look sharp, also looks like a real book cloth jacket, and the back of the case has a nice deep orange color. According to the manufacturer, the graphics printed on the canvas cover uses eco-friendly water-based inks and the jacket is coated with Scotchgard for better protection and more durability.
Half of the lure of the M-Edge Custom Jacket is the custom cover design in DIY style. You can upload your own photos, design your own patterns and text, which make this case a great gift for any iPad 2 owner. And then there is the unique and excellent Style Library. You can choose any design from the library to use on your custom jacket. Aside from some famous book titles in the ?Out of Print? series (you get a round stamp on the back of your case that says ?Out of Print?), there are also some artworks designed by artists such as Yelena Bryksenkova, Susie Grant and Christopher Betting. If you are a fan of The New Yorker, you are in luck! You can choose from 28 well-designed The New Yorker covers created by artists. M-Edge also partners with NCAA, which means you can advertise your alma mater on your case. Sweet!
From the unique book-cover style design and graphics to the sturdy and top notch material, the M-Edge Custom Jacket speaks quality and workmanship. For the book lovers who read their iBooks on the iPad 2, this case is the perfect cover that represents the style and personality of the tablet owner. I?m also reminded by those who live in big cities, like New York City, that a case like this might just fool people into thinking that you are carrying a book that?s not worth robbing. We went through the custom ordering process like a customer would go through, our case with ?The Master? design from the Style Library took 12 days to arrive. M-Edge offers the Custom Jacket for both ebook readers such as Kindle and Nook as well as the iPad and the iPad 2. The tablet version is $10 more as it?s larger.
